loooong overdue entry..
blow-by-blow account of mother's day (if i rmb the details clearly)..
My day started off wit me running in heels (what a dodo) to meet my cousin #1 (im numberin them to make it easier for understanding) at carrefour to shop for the ingredients... cousin #2 had commitments till 12 so she met us at cousin #1's hse straight..
so cousin #1 n i took approx 2 hrs to shop for the stuff.. we had many last minute springing of ideas so it was kinda fun throwin stuff into the shopping cart when we least expected to..
the funniest part was when i confirmed tht we had spent a certain amt of money (n was soo extremely sure tht we were way below our budget) but when we reached the cashier it was 30 bucks above our budget...which left us in a gigglin fit at the cashier.. but after recovering frm the maniac image tht we were portraying we paid it all off as if we were expectin it to cost even more n walked away, smiling..
we cabbed back to cousin #1's place n we were planning our schedule.. i rmb it being 1230 n we were plannin to start cooking at 330 pm.. but we were expecting the moms at 630 pm (too little time!).. soooo change of plans, we started work immediately, in the followin order:
- printing & decoration of the menu/memorabilia for the moms
- polishing, washing & cleaning of cutlery, wine glasses, water glasses to b used by the moms
- practicing our 'waitress'ing skills ( scary shit cos the plates were HEAVY & FRAGILE.. & we had to look professional..haha)
- cutting & preparation of the ingredients (which took us really long)
- preparing the toppings for the bruschetta
- seasoning the chicken (none of us has had prior experience in seasoning chickens by the way.. so we ended up trusting our instincts n adding olive oil, chives, butter, salt..n some other stuff.. lol)
- making the sauce for the chicken (our main course)
- making the vinegarette for the salad
- tryin out the crepe recipe for our desert
of course in those few hrs we had many freak-out moments cos one of the knives seemed to have a brain of its own n an intention in mind, to kill me.. so it was given a name.. n i never touched it after the 3rd encounter.. the backstreet boys CD was put on repeat =) so there we had the beautiful music of BSB soothing our nerves, my cousins humming their songs unknowingly & me dropping whatever i was doin to listen to Kevin's solos..sigh~ the influence of BSB.. =)
it was abt 6 pm when all the preparations ended.. jus when we were abt to take a five min breather, we realised tht the printer ink couldnt 'stick' onto our silver menu paper.. =( so we had no choice but to print em on glossy photo paper n do the menus all over again.. while this was all happenin, we had to start cleaning OURSELVES up so tht we didnt stink of food, so cousin #2 made a mad dash to the bathroom while cousin #1 & i tried finishing up the menus.. once we were all bathed n changed the doorbell rang & in came the first mom of the day n 'rrrrring' went the oven (wit the chicken in it).. soon all the moms arrived n we served em sparkling apple juice which did look like champagne..haha..
we then invited them to the table n served the moms bruschetta for starters.. this is the inital table settin, it's not a very clear shot though..my apologies (blame my poor photo-taking skills).. the card-like menus were placed on the plates n white roses on top of the menus..

the menu for the day:
starter: bruschetta

thankfully dinner went well, though we had a looong break between the end of the main course and serving of the desert cos we wanted to make the crepes jus b4 they were served so tht they wld b warm.. moms commented that the food was great (chicken was YUMMY!)..or rather, they were pleased wit the effort put in..
after dinner the three of us were tired like hell n i was dreading the washing up.. cousin #1 made me a huge serving of the most delicious vanilla ice cream wit left-over strawberries n chocolate PLUS chocolate sauce which instantly brought me to heaven (say it the way San wld say it....hair-ben).. we had the most impromptu mother's day game which was basically to quiz the moms abt us to noe how well they knew us (their children) e.g. who was ur child's primary 1 english teacher or who's your child's best friend or what's your child's favourite colour (my mom said black...BLACK?!!!..just cos i was wearin black..NNnnoooo) or what's your child's favourite ice-cream flavour (my mom got this partially right cos she said chocolate).. my mom did reasonably well.. haha.
n of course, the moms got us back by quizzing us on tougher questions about themselves.. n i did MUCH better than my mom did.though i didnt noe wht her favourite colour was (i squirmed n said pink.. bleah~ ... n my mom stared daggers at me)..
all in all, everything was perfect .. the evening ended wit hugss n kisses from all the moms, i felt the LOVEE... the warm, amazingly nice feeling tht u get when u see the smiles of satisfaction on their faces ..esp when my mom, on the way home, said tht she was proud of me.. awww.. she ALSO added "so now i guess you'll b cookin more at home?".. n i pretended to sleep..
my two cuzzies whom i had a blast of a time workin with.. cousin #1 on MY right n #2 on MY left (this was taken after approx 8 hours of cooking). LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them..
Moral of the day: The way to a mom's heart is thru roses..
